1st Quarter Witnesses 1.9% CPI Increase in Changde
News from the Changde National Bureau of Investigation Team shows that Changde’s Overall Level of Consumer Prices (CPI) rose by 1.9% in the first quarter while the increase dropped by 0.5% compared with that of the same period last year, 0.5% and 0.2% higher than the national and provincial level. Analysis shows that the decrease of food, tobacco and alcohol prices contributes the decline in CPI increase, and health care prices are the main drive of the rising CPI.
On a month-on-month basis, CPI rose by 0.8% in January affected by the New Year's Day and the Spring Festival, February witnessed stable CPI, and March a decline by 0.1% as the result of the drop of pork and fresh vegetable prices. Compared with the same period of last year, CPI rose by 2.8%, 1.5%, and 1.5% respectively in January, February, and March.
2017 is expected to face a greater inflation pressure than last year and Changde’s CPI will not exceed by 2.5% in the first half year as the overall market demand is still weak.
