Jinshi City: Golden Loquat Full of the Smell of Sunshine
Loquat yellow in June, in Chen’s Hundred-mu Jinxing Loquat Ecological Family Farm in Maolihu Town, Changdejin City, the golden-colored loquats hang all over the branches, crystal clear, full of the smell of sunshine. Villagers are picking, sorting, sorting, packaging, and distributing fruits to all parts of the country.
“Loquat planting can have income without going far away.” Pan Liqian, who was helping pick and pack loquats at the base with other villagers, said happily.
The Chen’s Ecological Family Farm has a superior geographical location and sufficient sunlight, so it grows high-quality loquats, adheres to pollution-free planting, refined management, and breeds good loquats with the local good mountains and waters, which are influenced by Changde and surrounding areas. The favor of citizens has also become a major characteristic industry that drives local people out of poverty.
The farm’s existing loquat planting scale is more than 100 mu, and there are more than 5,000 loquat trees in the loquat garden. The number of people who come to work every day is about 20, and the per capita income can increase by nearly 6,000 yuan.
In recent years, Maolihu Town, Tianjin City has attached great importance to the development of poverty alleviation industries, adhered to the “one village, one characteristic” model, and paid close attention to the project of “variety, quality, brand, and main body”. The orchards of Maolihu Town have emerged as a well-known thriving industry brand to increase the income of local farmers and increase agricultural efficiency.
Hanshou: Sugar Orange Trees Covered with Little “Happy Fruits”
Just after Xiao Man (the Grain Fills, one of 24 Chinese solar terms), walking into the orchard in Majian Village, Maojiatan Hui and Uyghur Township in Hanshou County, the travelers will see Egyptian sugar orange trees all over the mountains, with green eyes and small green fruits all over the branches. What a gratifying scene!
In the eyes of villagers in Majian Village, Egyptian sugar oranges are “fruits of enrichment” and “fruits of happiness”. In 2002, in order to help the people shake off poverty and become rich, the two committees of the village branch of Majian Village did a lot of research work and introduced Egyptian sugar oranges to the village. After the successful trial, they continued to promote the planting. Up to now, the core base is nearly 3,000 mu, which is the largest Egyptian sugar in the country. The orange production base has an annual output value of nearly 10 million yuan, benefiting nearly 500 farmers. In more than 5 months, the Egyptian sugar oranges in Majian Village will be ripe for the market.
In order to promote the development of the Egyptian sugar orange industry, Majian Village established an Egyptian sugar orange professional cooperative. The cooperative mainly carries out Egyptian sugar orange seedling breeding, cultivation demonstration, fruit storage, processing, and sales matters, and provides technical services and guidance throughout the process of production and “point-to-point” assistance. Zhu Yixing, leader of the Egyptian sugar orange planting base in Majian Village, owns 100 acres of Egyptian sugar orange. Over the years, he has led the villagers in the practice and exploration of planting techniques. More than 40 villagers have become large-scale planters, and more than 50 villagers have become professional technicians. As a result, 51 poor households have got rid of poverty and 500 villagers found jobs.
Majian Village will further strengthen the poverty alleviation of the Egyptian sugar orange industry, improve product quality, and accelerate the construction of the “one township, one industry, one village, one product” industry, and pave the way to poverty alleviation for the villagers.
Shimen County: Citrus Flowers in Blossom Fragrant Thousands of Miles
In May, the citrus flowers bloom and the fragrance is strong. Walking to Mengquan Town, Shimen County, Changde, the visitors can see orange trees in the mountains and plains, white and snowy orange flowers blooming on both sides of the road, in front of and behind the house. Bursts of scented orange blossoms are refreshing and intoxicating.
When it comes to oranges, the first association for Hunan people is Shimen oranges, orange fragrance every year and orange red every year. Shimen citrus is produced in the unique soil climate environment in the mountainous area of Shimen County, Changde City, with many mountains and dense forests, a quiet environment, little pollution in water, soil, and atmosphere, and good lighting conditions. It is a national ecological demonstration zone and has unique high-quality fruit production. Due to its inherent resource advantages, it has been recognized by the international fruit industry as “the perfect place for tangerines.” There is a long history of citrus planting here. The sunlight and climate are particularly suitable for the growth of citrus. Not only the fruit is big and thin, but the orange juice is sweet.
“With the industrial poverty alleviation funds, I changed the poor citrus varieties to the well-sold Nanfeng mandarins in the spring of 2015. Through the technical training carried out at the township and village levels, the citrus planted on one acre and three quarters of land was changed from dense planting to scattering planting. In 2019, the income of citrus reached 10,000 yuan, an increase of 6,000 to 7,000 yuan over the original 3,000 to 4,000 yuan per year.” She Zuoqing, a poverty-stricken household with a registered card in Mengquan Town, Shimen County, told the reporters of the income condition.
Shimen’s citrus planting scale ranks among the top in the country and is the pillar industry of Shimen County’s agriculture. The citrus planting area is 440,500 mu, with the annual output of 400,000 tons and the comprehensive output value of 1.2 billion yuan. Shimen citrus enjoys a high reputation in the country and export markets for its early maturity and high quality. It has successively won “Hometown of Chinese Citrus”, “The First County of National Early Ripening Tangerines”, “National Citrus Standardization Demonstration Zone”, “National Horticultural Products (Citrus) Export Demonstration Zone”, “National Food and Agricultural Products (Tea, Citrus) Quality and Safety Demonstration Zone”, “Chinese Geographical Certification Trademark”, “Famous Trademark of Hunan Province”, “Top Ten Agricultural Public Brands in Hunan Province”, “Outstanding Contribution to Poverty Alleviation of China Fruit Industry”, “National Citrus Industry”, “Top 30 Counties”, and other honors and titles.
This year is when the decisive victory will be won in the fight against poverty. Much to the satisfaction of orange farmers, the growth of citrus is gratifying and the harvest is on the horizon. The registered households in Shangwutong Village, Mengquan Town, Shimen are expected to increase their production by 800 kg per household and nearly 2,000 yuan each. The village will continue to develop the citrus industry and consolidate the results of poverty alleviation.
Dingcheng District: Sweetness Confirmed, Ebony Plum Met
In the season for ebony plums to mature, the 500-mu ebony base in Shibantan Town, Dingcheng District, Changde has ushered in a bumper harvest. The ebony trees all over the mountains are lush and fruitful. The red-to-black ebony plums are hanging over the branches, luring and appealing. The fruits taste sweet and sour and full of fruity aroma, which attracts many tourists to experience the joy of picking.
Due to sufficient sunshine this year, the output of ebony plum has increased by one-third compared with last year. It is learned that this ebony garden was originally a barren mountain. Good ebony fruits are favored by tourists from all over the country. The employment problem of 10 local poor households has been solved all the year round, and the arrival of the annual picking season has also promoted the development of local farmhouses and rural tourism.

Dingcheng District: Mulberries Mature, Heart Sweet
Late spring and early summer are the mulberry maturity season. In the mulberry orchard in Zhonghekou Town, Dingcheng District, Changde City, bunches and clusters of purple, red, and green mulberries hang all over the branches, fresh and mellow.
Right now, the mature mulberries bend the branches, and the mulberries will fall at a slight touch. Emerald mulberry leaves are layered, lined with purple mulberries, swaying in the wind. The ripe mulberry is like agate, crystal clear. Ms. Cao came to the mulberry garden with her friends early in the morning on the weekends, taking photos while eating the fruit. Breathing in the fresh air, she told reporters that the environment is very good, and the mulberries are just ripe and delicious. It tastes the same as it did when she was young.
