Wuling District: Pitaya on Trees, Harvest Scenes everywhere

In June, at the Changlong Red Meat Pitaya Picking Base in Sanxingdang Community, Hefu Town in Wuling District, Changde City, green fruits have already set tree branches curving down to earth. This "Fire Doll" base, which carries the dream of prosperity, will usher in a bumper harvest in early July.

The "Fire Doll" red meat pitaya is the fruit of wealth in the eyes of villagers in Sanxingdang Community of Hefu Town in Wuling District. The pitaya planted here generally grow 3-5 seasons a year. Right now it is the fruiting period of this season. Basically, the fruit will be ripe in early July. The red meat pitaya has plenty of juice, plump flesh along with a sweet but not greasy flavor, and has a particularly good taste. It is deeply loved by customers, especially the elderly and children.

Zhao Youzhen and her husband used to be poor households in the Sanxingdang community. In 2017, they transferred 5 acres of land to Wang Shichang, a large agricultural household, and received 1,200 yuan rent per acre. Working in the base at the doorstep can increase income by RMB 2,400 yuan per month.

Poor households working at the Changlong Red Meat Pitaya Base in Sanxingdang Community happily said: “Don't underestimate these little fire dolls. We are relying on them to get rid of poverty. ”

“At the beginning of 2017, we invested RMB 10 million yuan to contract more than 300 acres of low-lying land in the village to plant pitaya fruit. In order to complete the planting of high-quality red meat pitaya, we have realized the automation of water spraying, fertilization, and deinsectization. After a series of scientific management, the current 500 acres of red meat pitaya base has increased the yield per mu from more than 500kg at the beginning to the current 1250kg." Wang Shichang, the person in charge of working procedure at the base, said happily.

In recent years, Hefu Town of Wuling District has attached great importance to the development of poverty alleviation industries. Through the model of "cooperative + base + farmer households", the "town-community docking" policy has been used to help alleviate poverty and drive 20 households and 75 poor households in the village through land transfer and orchards, in addition to labor force migration for the sake of leveling up income.

Nowadays, the pitaya industry in Hefu Town of Wuling District is alleviating poverty, improving product quality, allowing villagers to share the value-added benefits of industrial transformation and upgrading in the park, and driving industrial development and local poor households out of poverty and enjoying the bonus of local resource activation.

Taoyuan County: A Pear Changes a Whole Village

The sunshine in April was just fitting the season and the need of local agriculture. In the Yulu Crispy Pear Orchard in Longjiazui Village of Reshi Town in Taoyuan County, more than 30 villagers were thinning the fruit in the orchard. This orchard carries the dream of a well-off life for the whole village.

Yulu crisp pear is a new variety bred from Xinjiang Korla pear and Snow pear. It is juicy, crispy, and tasty. It can be sold for high prices. However, planting is difficult, and the risk of entering the market after planting is not low. It is difficult to make this decision if only the villagers take the risks themselves. Long Jianshan, deputy to the Hunan Provincial People's Congress and party branch secretary of Longjiazui Village, turned it into reality. Last year, the output of 300 acres of Yulu crisp pears reached 500,000 kilograms, achieving an income of 6 million yuan. This year the village is expected to produce 1 million kilograms , with an income of RMB 8 million yuan.

In 2008, Long Jianshan put down his own family business with an annual income of nearly RMB 500,000 yuan and undertook the responsibility of revitalizing Longjiazui Village, saying, "We just want to plant a magic mountain of flowers and fruits." On October 12, 2015, after unremitting efforts, Long Jianshan led the village branch, two committees and party groups to introduce a high-quality Sydney planting project. The Hunan Longjiazui Ecological Agriculture Development Co. Ltd. was finally given birth in Longjiazui Village. The company transferred 650 acres of land, drove the villagers to develop more than 1,500 acres of fruit planting, and built a modern fruit industry demonstration park with Taoyuan Yulu crisp pears. Led by Party group and driven by industry development, a dual "engine" for poverty alleviation has been made.

As a saying goes, "One village gets rich as one pear gets harvested." In Longjiazui Village, Reshi Town, Taoyuan County, more than 200 villagers and surrounding people are employed at the base, with an average annual income of more than RMB 10,000 yuan per person. More than 40 poor households have also achieved prosperity through the base. In the village, the Long Yun couple and Long Junjie couple have worked in the orchard for a long time, earning more than RMB 50,000 yuan each year.

In 2019, Longjiazui Village, Reshi Town in Taoyuan County held the first Ecological Pear Orchard Picking Festival with the theme of poverty alleviation and industrial poverty alleviation. Guests and consumers from far and near made unanimous praise. There were 4 caring companies that signed contracts to purchase pears, with a total contract value of RMB 500,000 yuan.

Long Jianshan, a deputy of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress and Secretary of the Party Branch of Longjiazui Village, said that after several years of exploration, Longjiazui Village has been closely focusing on the idea of “Party building leads poverty alleviation and poverty alleviation helps Party building”. A new path of modernization, branding, greening, and four-season development has been established. Fruits are to be transported into the local and distant urban markets every month from May to October. The demonstration drives the villagers to build famous fruit gardens such as Yulu crisp pears, and famous, new and special fruits are getting promoted. The development of industries such as planting, storage, processing, and tourism has laid a solid foundation for the eventual realization of "the company aiding large households, large households connected with retail investors, both forging a road to prosperity".

In Longjiazui Village now, the villagers always say, "One village gets rich as one pear gets harvested."

Anxiang: "Wings" of Peach Garden Empower a Better Life to Take Off

With fragrance filling every corner in April, spring flowers give summer a magnificent harvest of fruits. In Ankang Town of Anxiang County in Changde City, an orchard covering an area of about 200 acres is covered by blue peaches, with the size of pigeon eggs under the lush peach leaves. The villagers are working hard to grab the farming time, and watering the hope of a good harvest with their diligent work.

Ankang Town is a well-known "Yellow Peach Village". The yellow peaches are soft in texture, delicate and tender, thick in meat, and rich in moisture. The taste is described as different varieties of Jinxiu yellow peach, yellow flat peach, and Jinyuan yellow peach. These three classes are very popular with customers. During each harvest season, the villagers in the orchard are busy picking, boxing, and weeding all smiles. "Yellow peaches are the fruit of poverty alleviation and fruit of Ankang villagers." Local villagers say that after transferring their farming land to the use of fruit cultivation, they will bring their grandchildren and take care of their families during the slack of farming. When Peach garden labor force is tight, they can work for the orchard to earn money. With income channel guaranteed, the life here is getting easier. Villagers work happily in the orchard, with an average annual income of more than 20,000 yuan. The poor households have also achieved prosperity through the orchard. A small fruit also bears great energy, and a lush yellow peach tree can also bear the "golden fruit" for poverty alleviation of the county. The villagers in Ankang Town have been lifted out of poverty and are working more vigorously.

Linli: As Navel Orange Blossoms, Happiness Blossoms

April is full of glamorous scent of spring feature as always. In Kemushan Town, Linli County of Changde, new leaves of navel orange trees sprout on the hillside, giving a promising view in the front field and backyard of the farmhouses. White flowers blooming on the branches and the color of white doping with green make the mountain village extraordinarily beautiful.

The navel oranges from Kemushan Town of Linli County are big, tender, and juicy. They are delicious and fragrant in one bite, attracting many tourists to pick them. Fortunately, the villagers are actively looking for ways to get rich. They sought every possible opportunity and developed an area of 5,000 mu of navel orange industry. The villagers’ life is getting better day by day, and the young people who used to go out to work in factories have also returned to their hometowns. Navel oranges give the villagers a stable income, and the happiest ones are the children who have been left behind in the village before. "I'm feeling on top of the world with my parents." Xiao Yanfang, aged 8 years old this year, is in the third grade of elementary school. After her parents returned home, she felt more family warmth and her personality became cheerful. "The income of navel oranges is indeed considerable. You can take care of the elderly and children without going out to work," said a villager from a poor household who was pruning the navel orange orchard cheerfully.

Kemushan Town of Linli County, named after the allusion of Ding Lan's carved wood in the story of Twenty-Four Filial Piety, is located at the northern end of Hunan Province. In the eyes of the older generation of Kemushan villagers, Kemushan is half a reservoir and half a rocky desert. It is said that there is too little good land for growing food in the mountain, and poor crops have also caused trouble to the local people. Growing golden fruits in the rocky desert and searching for the magic weapon to get rid of poverty and get rich constantly concern the local government and Party leaders here. In recent years, under the leadership of the local government, the village has refocused on industrial development and introduced navel orange cultivation. In order to increase the income of villagers, the navel orange park hires local villagers to take care of the navel orange trees all the year round, so that the local villagers have a stable income, and their pockets gradually bulge.
