Changde is located between 28-31 degrees north latitude and 110-113 degrees east longitude. It is located in South Central China, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the northwest of Hunan Province. It is adjacent to Dongting Lake on the east, Guizhou and Chongqing on the west, Changsha on the south and Jingzhou and Xiangyang on the north. There is an open plain in the east, surrounded by mountains in the northwest, west and south. The landform is mainly plain, with some mountains, hills, hummocks and lakes. The terrain tilts from west to east, with various geomorphic types. The remaining veins of Xuefeng Mountain extend in the south, Wuling Mountain extends in the northwest, and Yuanshui and Lishui rivers run through the whole territory from west to east.
