Yang Yao（1108-1135）was born in a poor farm laborer family in Longyang(today’s Hanshou County of Changde). He studied in a home school for two years when he was young. After that, he war forced to stop his study because of poverty and worked in merchant ship to make his live. In the early South Song Dynasty, Zhong Xiang started an uprising against the government. Yang Yao followed him and became one of leaders. After Zhong Xiang’s death, Yang Yao led the remaining soldiers to continue their resistance against the government in the Dongting Lake. In 1135, the uprising army was defeated completely by the government’s army and Yang Yao was arrested and decapitated.
