Yin Keng, who styled himself as Zijian and was born in Anxiang County, was a famous poet in the Southern Dynasty (420-589) much appreciated by Emperor Wen of Chen. He was particularly good at capturing the spatial vastness of mountains and rivers in the form of five-character sentence. More than 30 poems of his survived the time. Besides, he enjoyed equal popularity with He Xun (a famous poet in the Southern Dynasty). Du Fu and Li Bai, two great poets in the Tang Dynasty, had praised highly of Yin.
