Lin Xiumei(1880-1921), a native of Changde, was born in a scholar family. He started his education at the age of 8 years old and ranked the first in the county-level imperial examination in 1901. In 1903, he entered Changsha Land Army School by examination. After his graduation, he became the cannoneer battalion commander of Hunan new army. In 1906, he began his study in Japanese Land Army Officer School and joined Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary team. After that, he was valued by Sun Yat-sen and shouldered many different important duties and made great contribution to China’s revolution. In 1921, he died in Guangzhou because of ill treatment of an unqualified doctor. After his death, a state funeral was held for him to show the people’s respect to him.
