Linli County, in the northwest of Hunan, is a hilly county around the Dongting Lake area. It is the hometown of Lin Xiumei, the pioneer of democratic revolution, Lin Boqu, the leader of proletarian revolution, and the famous writer Ding Ling. It covers an area of 1203 square kilometers, consisting of 9 towns, 2 streets, 1 economic development zone, and 160 villages (communities). It is a time-honored place reflecting the heritage of Chu culture, including many cultural relics like Song Yu's Tomb, Shenming City, the Chu Tombs at nine miles, and the Site of Rice Cultivation in Shanlonggang more than 8000 years ago, etc. Linli County existed as Anfu County from the 7th year of Emperor Yongzheng of qing Dynasty (1729), and it changed into Linli County at the 3rd year of the Republic of China (1914).
Linli County is rich in natural resources, granted as the fertile land of fish and rice and the land of non-metallic minerals, because its proved reserves of gypsum ranks the 4th in China and the 1st in Hunan Province. It has rich natural scenery and lots of tourism resources, including Taifu Mountain, Guanting Lake, Former Residence of Lin Boqu, etc.
The the transport facilities are convenient in Linli County, with the National Highway 207 and Dong-Chang Expressway across through its north-south route, and the National Highway 353 and Anci Expressway, planned to construct, across through east-west route. Moreover, the Zhicheng-Liuzhou Railway, Luoyan-Zhanjiang Railway, and Shimen-Changsha Railway go across it, and it will have a high speed train soon. Since reform and opening-up, Linli County has won over 40 national honors and 100 Hunan honors, such as the “National Leading Cultural County”, “National Science and Technology Progress County”, “Home of fireworks and firecrackers in China”, “Home of Chinese poetry”.
