Changde BRT(Bus Rapid Transit) System
On December 26, 2012, Hunan’s first BRT system was officially launched in Changde, which can provide citizens faster and more comfortable transportation service. Current Changde BRT system includes 1 main line(H1: From Changde Bus Station to Deshan Bus Station) and five branch lines(H11: From Chongde Road of Deshan to Liuye Lake; H12: From Deshan Bus Station to Worker’s CulturaL Palace; H13: From Deshan to the Second Branch Company of Changde Bus Company; H15: From Worker’s Cultural Palace to Changde Railway Station; H16: From Changde Vocational College to Liuye Lake; L12: Haide Road of Deshan to Deshan Bus Station; L11: From Sima Tower of Liuye Lake to Food Street of Liuye Lake).
BRT takes part of its name from rail rapid transit, which describes a high-capacity urban public-transit system with its own right-of-way, multiple-car trains at short headways, and longer stop spacing than traditional streetcars and buses. BRT, however, uses buses on a wide variety of rights-of-way, including mixed traffic, dedicated lanes on surface streets, and busways completely separated from traffic. Typical transit speeds of BRT systems range from 17 to 30 miles per hour (27 to 48 km/h), which can compare with surface running light rail. The first BRT system in the world was the Rede Integrada de Transporte (RIT, translated as "Integrated Transportation Network"), implemented in Curitiba, Brazil in 1974.
