Mayor Cao Lijin Investigates Rural Industry Development in Linli County and Shimen County

        From Aug.14th to Aug. 15th, Mayor Cao Linjun visited some towns in Linli County and Shimen County. The trip was to do a research on rural industry development and some other livelihood-related work. He pointed out that it is significant for Changde an agricultural city to develop rural industry to revitalize rural economy. He also urged the local government to help develop new rural products and build new brands based on the actual rural situation.

    Cao visited Wanghua Village, Guihua Village and Gaoqiao Village in Linli County. Gaoqiao Village, the hometown of Lin Boqu, one of the founding fathers of the P.R.China, was a provincial poverty-striken village. In recent years the village has been focusing on its own developing policy of tourism combined with green industry, and became a popular destination of many self-help tourists. Poverty-stricken families in the village were reduced to 10 from 166. Cao listened to the introduction about the change of the village and pointed out that the development of the rural tourism should also rely on the Internet. He suggested the villages should contact some successful online tourism websites to promote their scenic spots as well as their food, lodging and so on.

    In Chenjiayan Village, Shimen County, Cao sat with farmers to discuss the village’s bee-breeding industry, with an estimated average income of 3,000 RMB to each family annually. Cao said only through the management and improvement of living conditions, and the increase of farmers’ income, can they be more motivated to explore more possibilities in rural industry so as to push the development of it. Cao urged related administration units to build a standard on bee honey quality and get the label registered.

    During the two-day visit, Cao also mentioned the importance of rural education, which he referred to as a base of rural revitalization.
